LOS ANGELES -- Giants third-base coach Roberto Kelly was in good enough condition to fly back to San Francisco with the team after he was forced to leave Sunday night's 3-1 defeat against the Los Angeles Dodgers before the seventh inning.
Multiple eyewitnesses said that a wild throw from shortstop Corey Seager, which he unleashed while Dodgers infielders kept loose between innings, bounced into the Giants' dugout and struck Kelly, who was wearing his protective helmet.
Kelly quickly retreated to the clubhouse for treatment, accompanied by members of the Giants' athletic training staff. Kelly's medical history, which included a concussion he sustained that forced him to miss part of the 2012 National League Championship Series when he was San Francisco's first-base coach, accented the Giants' sense of urgency to monitor his condition.
