SAN FRANCISCO -- President of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi remains committed to finding ways to incrementally improve the Giants’ roster, as evidenced by a series of transactions the club announced on Tuesday. 

The Giants claimed right-handers Rico García (Rockies) and Trevor Oaks (Royals) and infielder Kean Wong (Angels) off waivers and designated for assignment outfielder Mike Gerber and right-hander Ricardo Pinto. The club’s 40-man roster is now at full capacity. 

García, 25, reached the Majors with Colorado in 2019 but struggled in his only two appearances, posting a 10.50 ERA over six innings. He opened his campaign at Double-A Hartford and logged a 1.85 ERA over 13 starts before earning a promotion to Triple-A Albuquerque. He had trouble replicating that success in the Pacific Coast League, however, recording a 6.90 ERA over 13 outings. 

Zaidi’s former club, the Dodgers, selected the 26-year-old Oaks in the seventh round of the 2014 Draft. Oaks was traded to the Royals as part of a three-team deal that sent left-hander Scott Alexander to Los Angeles last year. He made his Major League debut with the Royals in 2018 but missed the entire 2019 season while rehabbing from hip surgery. 

Wong, 24, the younger brother of Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong, batted .307 with an .839 OPS over 113 games with the Rays’ Triple-A affiliate in Durham in 2019. He reached the Majors with the Rays in 2019 before being claimed by the Angels, going a combined 3-for-18 over seven games. A left-handed hitter, Wong primarily played second and third base in the Minors and could be in the mix for a backup infield job with the Giants next spring. 

Gerber, the first player acquired by Zaidi after he joined the Giants last November, went 1-for-24 with 15 strikeouts in a brief appearance with the club this past season. Pinto arrived from the Rays via a waiver claim but was not called up from Triple-A Sacramento when rosters expanded in September
