Mapson named West Coast Scout of Year

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Giants senior advisor Doug Mapson received a little-known yet coveted honor Wednesday when the Scout of the Year program named him West Coast Scout of the Year during a dinner ceremony at baseball's Winter Meetings.

Mapson will enter his 22nd year with the Giants next season, including the last nine as national cross-checker.

Before joining the Giants, Mapson spent 11 years with the Cubs. His highlight of that tenure was signing right-hander Greg Maddux in 1984. Maddux proceeded to win 355 games during a career that likely will land him in the Hall of Fame.
