Romo working way back to Giants' bullpen

June 25th, 2016

SAN FRANCISCO -- Despite enduring a rocky injury rehabilitation outing Thursday with Triple-A Sacramento, right-hander Sergio Romo could pitch again as early as Saturday as he continues his bid to rejoin the Giants' bullpen.
Pitching for the second day in a row, Romo yielded two earned runs and three hits in one-third of an inning Thursday against Tacoma. But Giants manager Bruce Bochy said that Romo, who's recovering from a right flexor strain, could be ready to make another appearance Saturday or Sunday, depending on how his arm feels.
In other injury-related developments, Bochy said infielder Kelby Tomlinson (left thumb) needs another week to 10 days of recovery, strengthening and baseball-related activities before he's ready for a rehab stint. Tomlinson has taken ground balls at shortstop but hasn't worked out at second or third base. Nor has he taken any meaningful batting practice.
Right-hander Matt Cain (right hamstring) threw about 20 pitches off a bullpen mound and will repeat the exercise Sunday, Bochy said. At that point, Bochy added, the Giants will determine whether Cain will again throw on the side, pitch batting practice or appear in a rehab game.
