Giants sign Cuban outfielder Daniel Carbonell to a Major League contract

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The San Francisco Giants have signed Cuban outfielder Daniel Carbonell to a major league contract, club Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Sabean announced today.

The 23-year-old played for Camaguey in the Cuban Serie Nacional for four years, batting .287 (163-for-568) with 119 runs scored, 28 doubles, four triples, nine home runs and 70 RBI in 190 games. The 6-foot-3, 196-pound outfielder hit .298 (59-for-198) with 40 runs scored, 13 doubles, five homers and 28 RBI in 62 games in his last season from 2012-2013. Carbonell has experience at all three outfield spots, playing center field primarily.

Carbonell is currently residing in Merida, Mexico and will report to Arizona once he has a work visa.

The Giants now have 40 players on their 40-man roster.
