SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Rhythm and command were key on Tuesday for Giants No. 3 prospect Tyler Beede as he took the hill for the Scottsdale Scorpions.
Beede held the Glendale Desert Dogs in check over four innings en route a 6-2 victory. In just his second Fall League start, he allowed just just two hits and two unearned runs while striking out four.

He had a tough matchup, facing off against Pirates No. 11 prospect Taylor Hearn. Hearn went three innings, striking out three while only allowing one hit. While the two stat lines were similar, and Beede believes he still has room to improve, he said he had one pitch that gave him an advantage Tuesday.
"I'm just trying to establish my fastball command out here," Beede said. "I think for me, my secondary pitches need some refining as well, but for me, fastball command is key. I had a good rapport going with [Aramis] Garcia behind the plate. I had a good rhythm and I felt like I prepared well between last start and this start and I saw some improvement."
Beede bounced back from his last outing in which he threw two innings and allowed five runs.
"From last start to this start I changed a little bit of my mechanics just to gain some more rhythm," Beede said. "I started going over my head, which was a more comfortable mechanic for me to find my rhythm and tempo. That was really the small adjustment that I made to kind of make a big difference for me. I felt more comfortable and in rhythm and on time and I'm going to continue working on that going forward."

Reds prospect Brantley Bell had a good day on both sides of the ball, making multiple defensive stops at third base while going 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. He was the only Scorpions player to have multiple hits in the game.
For Scottsdale, Angels No. 20 prospect Troy Montgomery tacked on the final two runs of the day in the sixth inning on a single to left field. He ended the day 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
On the other side of the field, Cleveland's top prospect and MLB.com's No. 13 overall, Francisco Mejia, went 1-for-3 with a run scored. The Desert Dogs were limited to just three hits on the day and were unable to get any after the fifth inning.
One of the pitchers that was key in keeping the Desert Dogs off the basepaths was Mets prospect Kyle Regnault. He struck out the side in the eighth and has now made five appearances in the Fall League, striking out 12 over 8 2/3 innings.
The Arizona Fall League is a place where top prospects go to further develop their unique talents. Beede finds that when playing here, success is all about having the right mindset.
"It's just treating it like it's the same game," Beede said. "Just commanding your stuff, making sure you're throwing quality pitches and things will work out if you just stick to that process."
