Gillick, Giles to represent Phillies at Draft

Gillick, Giles to represent Phillies at Draft

PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies hope Pat Gillick's Hall of Fame credentials will give them a little luck early in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft.

Gillick and Phillies chairman Bill Giles will be the Phils' representatives for the Draft on June 4. Gillick was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011. Giles has been a part of the Phillies' ownership group since 1981 and served as team president until 1997.

The Phillies do not have a first-round pick, losing it for signing free-agent closer Jonathan Papelbon. But they have the 37th and 54th pick in the supplemental round. Gillick and Giles will announce those picks on MLB Network.

The annual First-Year Player Draft takes place this year from June 4-6, beginning with the first round and Comp Round A on Monday, June 4, at 7 p.m. ET. The first night of the event will be broadcast live on MLB Network and streamed live on MLB.com. Rounds 2-40 will also be streamed live on MLB.com on June 5-6.

MLB.com's coverage, sponsored by CenturyLink, will include Draft Central, the Top 100 Draft Prospects list, Draft Tracker, a live interactive application that includes a searchable database of every Draft-eligible player, and Draft Caster.
