CHICAGO -- Manager Rick Renteria is the right man to lead the White Sox.
That point was made abundantly clear by general manager Rick Hahn during his 30-minute press conference Thursday at Guaranteed Rate Field, as Hahn heaped praise on the culture created by Renteria and his staff. Actually, it's a point Hahn has made many times during this first stage of the rebuild.
But when the White Sox move from rebuild to prime contender, Renteria still should be the man in charge per Hahn's comments.
"I see no reason he's not," said Hahn when asked if Renteria was the long-term answer as manager. "I can't tell you how many various fans have stopped me or emailed me or mentioned to me that they have never been this excited over a 60-win team or a team that isn't going to the playoffs. So much of that is based upon on how Ricky and the coaches have them playing day in and day out."
Renteria is known for his tireless work ethic, with some people in the organization talking about how devoted to baseball he is. But Renteria's focused on the final four games of the regular season, and he's not worried about his future status.
"Do I want to be part of that?" Renteria said. "I think I'm in the midst of the beginning of something that's going to be like that. I don't see it as something that's so far off. I kind of see it like hopefully I'll continue to be a part of what's moving forward because this little choo choo is moving forward right now.
"But I just can take care of today. I can't worry about tomorrow. If tomorrow leads me to be here while they're a part of a team that's in contention because they're capable of doing and putting together their skills with ability to play the game a certain way, then I hope to be here. But this is still a part of the process."
Tilson ready for action
Outfielder Charlie Tilson has been cleared for baseball activity and will join the White Sox Instructional League roster to take part in game action. Tilson has missed the entire season due to a stress reaction in his right foot and stress fracture suffered in the navicular bone of his right ankle.
