Phils GM Klentak likes roster, won't rule out moves

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Phillies open Spring Training in less than a month, and the roster they have today is expected to be the one they have at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla.
Of course, nothing is absolute.

"We'll continue to survey the market for opportunities," Phillies general manager Matt Klentak said Thursday evening at Triple-A Lehigh Valley's winter banquet at the Sands Event Center. "Every year, it turns out that somebody who we thought was going to sign early and they don't, they hold out and there's a deal to be done. We're on the phone. We're talking to the agents and other clubs. Sometimes they come in trades. We continue to be active, but it's hard to handicap it at this point who it may be. But if there's an opportunity out there, we're going to push forward."
So the Phils will look, but they will not be in the hunt for big names on the open market. If they add somebody, it figures to be of the more bargain variety.
"If we needed to break camp today, I think we'd be in very good shape," Klentak said. "I think one of the things I'm pleased about this offseason is that we've really been able to establish depth in a lot of areas. And adding to the core that we already had in the organization. So we're always going to keep an open mind for opportunities to get better. That's the name of the game. That's what we're always trying to do, but I've been pleased with what we've been able to accomplish this offseason."
Extra bases
• Left-hander Mario Hollands had Tommy John surgery in April. He has some rehab time before he is ready to pitch, so he will not be ready to go for Spring Training.
• Left-hander Matt Harrison (back) is also not expected to be ready for Spring Training, and it sounds unlikely he will pitch anytime soon.
• The Venezuelan Summer League will not operate in 2016 because too many teams have pulled out. The Phillies will keep an academy there, but they will now operate two teams in the Dominican Republic.
