Goldy, Castillo need boost in ASG voting

1st baseman 4th in latest NL ballot update; catcher 5th

June 8th, 2016

PHOENIX -- Despite another hot week at the plate, D-backs first baseman Paul Goldschmidt's deficit in the National League All-Star balloting grew, and he is now more than 900,000 votes behind the Cubs' Anthony Rizzo.
Goldschmidt, who has been voted the NL starter the past two years and has been a member of the team the past three, remained in fourth place in the results released Wednesday.

Rizzo has opened up his lead on all of those behind him. The Giants' Brandon Belt (402,271 votes) is in second place, followed by the Dodgers' Adrian Gonzalez (360,539).
Over his past 18 games entering Wednesday, Goldschmidt was hitting .377 (23-for-61) with five doubles, three homers, 14 RBIs and 15 walks.
An uncharacteristic slow start at the plate, though, has apparently hurt Goldschmidt in the voting.
Catcher Welington Castillo is the only other D-backs player among the leaders.

Castillo, who ranked fourth in last week's voting update, has fallen to fifth with 283,345 votes. Cardinals' catcher Yadier Molina (694,204) leads in the voting, followed by the Giants' Buster Posey (631,799), the Cubs' Miguel Montero (417,224) and the Nats' Wilson Ramos (366,531).
