PHOENIX -- The D-backs offense continued rolling, pounding out 16 hits in support of Patrick Corbin, who pitched seven quality innings, as Arizona beat the Padres for the second night in a row, 9-3, at Chase Field on Tuesday night.
Corbin (2-3) scattered eight hits and allowed two runs while throwing a season-high 105 pitches.
"Patrick obviously had a huge night," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said. "It was just a really, really nice effort by him. He set the tone and the offense paced us the rest of the way."

It was more of a struggle for Padres lefty Clayton Richard, who allowed six runs in lasting just 3 2/3 innings.
"I don't know if it was command for him, just not a lot of sink," Padres manager Andy Green said about Richard's performance. "It forces him to pitch on the edge of the zone more than he normally does. I thought he was a little flatter than usual. They put some very good swings on him. They were able to get him in the air, which is unusual."
The D-backs grabbed an early lead scoring four times in the first two innings and continued to build on that with a pair of runs in the fourth, another in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Starting early:Paul Goldschmidt homered with two outs in the first inning, the fifth straight game the D-backs have homered in the opening frame. A.J. Pollock, Yasmany Tomas, Goldschmidt, David Peralta and Goldschmidt accounted for the homers as Arizona became the first team to accomplish the feat since the 2005 White Sox. Goldschmidt reached base five times, and had four hits on Tuesday.
"I think we've always talked about playing downhill baseball here and setting the tone by being ready on both sides of the ball -- the pitchers are going to go out there and execute and offensively we're going to be ready," Lovullo said. "I think there's a lot of preparation that goes into us being successful early in the game."

Offensive Owings:Chris Owings continued to swing a hot bat. After going 2-for-4 with his first career grand slam Monday, Owings picked up another two hits and knocked in three runs. The biggest was a two-out, two-run triple right in the second inning that increased the D-backs early lead.
"His ball just moves so much that you've got to try and get him up in the zone," Owings said of Richard. "I was fortunate to get in a good count, 2-0, and he just left one up there middle and I stayed inside of it just enough to get it down the line." More >>

According to Statcast™, Jabari Blash's seventh-inning lead-off homer off Corbin had a 43-degree launch angle, which is the highest on any home run this season. Blash also had a pair of walks in his four plate appearances.
"I loved the two walks and the home run, obviously," Green said. "I loved that he went so deep in the counts. Jabari had a good offensive day."

WHAT'S NEXT
Padres: Trevor Cahill returns to Arizona to start against his former team in a 6:40 p.m. PT game. The last time the right-hander started at Chase Field was Sept. 26, 2014, a loss for the D-backs against the Cardinals.
D-backs:Zack Godley will be called up from Triple-A Reno to start Wednesday night against the Padres in a 6:40 p.m. MST start at Chase Field. Godley is replacing the injured Shelby Miller in the rotation, but is pitching on Taijuan Walker's normal day so as to give all the starters and extra day of rest.
