Gomez exits early with forearm tightness

PITTSBURGH -- Pirates starter Jeanmar Gomez was forced to leave Sunday's game against the Reds after one inning, due to tightness in his right forearm.

Gomez clearly was not at his sharpest during a first inning in which he allowed four runs to the Reds. The first six men he faced reached base, with leadoff man Shin-Soo Choo being hit by a pitch ahead of four hits and a walk.

Gomez held Detroit scoreless for seven innings on three hits in his previous start, and had allowed a total of seven earned runs in six starts since joining the Pirates' rotation in early May.
