PHOENIX -- Gorkys Hernandez drove in a career-high four runs to help lead the Giants past the D-backs, 8-4, on Tuesday night at Chase Field.
The Giants built a 3-0 lead through three innings and after the D-backs struck back for two in the fourth, San Francisco broke things open with a five-run fifth inning.
Hunter Pence and Joe Panik each collected three hits for the Giants, who had 15 on the night despite striking out 12 times.
"It was just a good bounce-back game for us," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "You lose a tough one, the opener, then have a good game like this."

Johnny Cueto (1-0) picked up the win, allowing four runs on six hits over five innings, including homers from Paul Goldschmidt and Jake Lamb, while Patrick Corbin (0-1) absorbed the loss.

"The bottom line is they scored more runs, they executed in more situations than we did," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said. "They had 15 hits. They outplayed us today. They won the game. It's time to close shop tonight and come out tomorrow."

Error opens door: With a run in, one out and runners at first and third, Cueto hit a chopper to the left of shortstop Chris Owings. Had Owings fielded the ball, he appeared to have an inning-ending double play in front of him. Instead, the ball skipped by him, allowing one run to score, and the Giants made it hurt by tacking on three more runs.

"I don't think we played our best game," Lovullo said. "We didn't execute at times in several different areas and it cost us. It cost us in some key moments."

Say it with slugging: Recording the season's first home run by a Giants position player as he led off the fifth inning, Brandon Crawford did more than just account for a run. He reclaimed momentum for the Giants after they allowed two Arizona runs in the fourth. The Giants rode that momentum to score five times and grab a commanding 8-2 lead. They collected five hits in the inning and batted around, but Crawford left no doubt as to what the biggest blow was.

Giants: Left-hander Matt Moore, beginning his first full season with San Francisco, will get the start Wednesday in a 6:40 p.m. PT encounter. Moore is 6-5 with a 3.00 ERA in 16 career starts in March and April.
D-backs:Taijuan Walker will get the ball for the first time in a D-backs uniform Wednesday night against the Giants at Chase Field in a 6:40 p.m. MST start. Walker came over from the Mariners in a December trade that sent Jean Segura to Seattle.
