SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Scott Boras, the agent for former Royals closer Greg Holland, said at the General Managers Meetings that Holland won't have another showcase before potentially signing with a team.
Holland, a free agent, is recovering from Tommy John surgery that kept him out for all of the 2016 season. On Monday, Holland threw about 30-35 pitches at nearby Grand Canyon University with scouts from numerous teams reportedly on hand, including the Royals, Indians, Red Sox, Giants and Mariners.

Holland's velocity was reportedly around 88-91 mph, considerably lower than during his stellar seasons with the Royals when his fastball sat around 95-96 mph.
"He threw the other day," Boras said. "We've got a grand number of teams -- well more than half the teams in baseball -- that are very interested in Greg Holland.
"He's not going to be throwing again. I think teams saw him throw in the low 90s, and he's doing really well. They just want to see he's healthy. I think everyone knows what Greg Holland can do. He's an elite closer. He's got four months to go before Spring Training. They just wanted to see he was ready to go."
From 2013-14, Holland compiled a 1.32 ERA and saved 93 games for the Royals, making the American League All-Star team twice. Boras indicated Holland would be willing to serve any future role in the bullpen.

"He's a 'help' pitcher," Boras said. "That's what we call them nowadays. He's a high-leverage, premium pitcher. Whatever role they have, I think everybody is understanding what benefit they play in a team's goal to win a championship. I do think, though, that most managers are going to be using those help-type players in a closing role during the season to keep their innings down, set up their bullpens and also make sure they don't go too many innings so they can go out and give you more innings in the postseason."
