Red Sox hire Norton as hitting coordinator

Boston also announces Minor League coaching staffs for 2016

Greg Norton has joined the Red Sox as Minor League hitting coordinator, highlighting organizational appointments announced Thursday by Ben Crockett, the club's director of player development.
Norton, who played 13 seasons in the big leagues, filled the same role for the Marlins in 2012-13 and had since been hitting coach at Auburn University.
Triple-A Pawtucket's Kevin Boles is one of five affiliate managers returning to their post, while Carlos Febles, in his 10th season in the Boston organization, will take over the reins for Double-A Portland.
Billy McMillon, Portland's manager the past two seasons, transitions to Minor League coordinator for outfield and baserunning.

• Pawtucket (International League): Coaches Bob Kipper (pitching), Rich Gedman (hitting) and Bruce Crabbe.
• Portland (Eastern League): Coaches Kevin Walker (pitching) and Joe Nunnally (hitting).
• Class A Advanced Salem (Carolina League): Manager Joe Oliver; coaches Paul Abbott (pitching) and Nelson Paulino (hitting).
• Class A Greenville (South Atlantic League): Manager Darren Fenster; coaches Walter Miranda (pitching) and Lee May Jr. (hitting).
• Class A Short-Season Lowell (New York-Penn League): Manager Iggy Suarez; coaches Lance Carter (pitching) and Wilton Veras (hitting).
• Rookie-level GCL Red Sox (Gulf Coast League): Manager Tom Kotchman; coaches Dick Such (pitching), Junior Zamora (hitting) and Dave Tomlin.
• Rookie-level DSL Red Sox 1 (Dominican Summer League): Manager Jose Zapata; coaches Aquilino Lopez (pitching), Carlos Adolfo (hitting), Carlos Sequera and Leonel Vasquez.
• Rookie-level DSL Red Sox 2 (Dominican Summer League): Manager Aly Gonzalez; coaches Oscar Lira (pitching), Ozzie Chavez (hitting) and Claudio Sanchez.
