Gregorius shrugs off trade rumors
SYDNEY -- More than 7,000 miles away from Arizona, D-backs shortstop Didi Gregorius has not exactly been keeping up on trade rumors.
ESPNNewyork.com reported that the D-backs are making Gregorius available in trade discussions, apparently choosing to go with Chris Owings at short.
"I didn't know anything about trade rumors," Gregorius said after the team's workout on Thursday. "I don't really go look up that stuff. I don't really care. It's not in my hands. It's in the GM's hands. I don't have to worry about that."
D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said both Gregorius and Owings would get a start in the two-game Opening Series against the Dodgers this weekend.
The team has said it would like one or the other to be the starter with Cliff Pennington serving as the backup. However, both could wind up on the roster when the regular season resumes on March 31, because outfielder Cody Ross will open the year on the disabled list.
