Guide to Griffey weekend at Safeco Field

August 5th, 2016

SEATTLE -- So you couldn't make it out to Cooperstown for Ken Griffey Jr.'s Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony? You didn't get a chance to take a picture next to his golden likeness on the wall?
Have no fear. The plaque is here -- at Safeco Field.
The Mariners will display Griffey's Hall of Fame plaque on Friday and Saturday as a part of Griffey weekend. Fans can get right up next to it one of two ways:
Fans with tickets to Friday or Saturday's game can stop by during the game. The plaque will be on display from 5:10 p.m. until the end of the game on Friday, and from the first inning to the end of the game on Saturday.
As of Thursday afternoon, tickets were still available for Friday's game, and a few standing room only tickets could still be purchased for Saturday's game. Visit Mariners.com/Tickets, call 1-888-SEA-HITS, or stop by the box office or a Mariners Team Store for tickets.
The entire three-game weekend series with the Angels will be a celebration of Griffey's induction into the Hall of Fame, culminating with Saturday's pregame ceremony during which his No. 24 will be retired. That ceremony starts at 5:30 p.m., prior to the 6:40 p.m. first pitch.
Friday will be a bobblehead night, with the first 20,000 fans receiving a Hall of Fame bobblehead. Mariners players will wear 1989 replica jerseys from Griffey's rookie season in the 7:10 p.m. PT game.
The first 20,000 fans on Saturday will receive a miniature replica of Griffey's plaque and the players will all wear No. 24 on their batting practice jerseys in what will be the final time any member of the Mariners -- either in the Majors or Minors -- dons that number.
The weekend concludes Sunday afternoon when the first 20,000 fans will receive a replica of Griffey's rookie jersey.
For fans who can't make it to either game, there is a free photo opportunity on Saturday at Safeco Field from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Because they're only allowing 750 fans at that event, everyone needs a ticket to enter. Those can be ordered at Mariners.com/Griffey.
For all of the above photo opportunities, Griffey's plaque will be near section 142, right by the indoor entrance to the team store. Expect very long lines all around. Even those with tickets for the Saturday morning viewing must be in line before 11 a.m. to be guaranteed a picture.
The Mariners are planning on directing the line up the left field ramp, so coming down the ramp from the 300 level, near section 341, may be the best approach. Each person only gets one picture.
