Guyer joins Triple-A Durham, inches toward return

HOUSTON -- Sidelined since May 26 with a left thumb fracture, Rays outfielder Brandon Guyer was scheduled to work out with Triple-A Durham on Friday.

If the workout goes well, Guyer will hit designated hitter for the Bulls on Saturday before playing in the outfield on Sunday.

"He's only going to be out a little over the two-week time period," manager Joe Maddon said. "It depends on how he feels. Once you play, you got to find out. Maybe like three or four games is something he may think that he needs in order to feel comfortable back here."

Guyer is hitting .262 for the Rays this season, with one home run and six RBIs.
