Hall of Fame Classic set for new Memorial Day weekend date in 2013

Fifth-Annual Legends Game, Parade Scheduled for May 25 in Cooperstown

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – As the nation pauses for its annual tribute to its fallen heroes, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will honor America with a standing tradition on a new date, as Hall of Fame Classic Weekend relocates to Memorial Day Weekend, May 25-26, for 2013.

Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame will salute America’s past with a fun-filled family weekend, highlighted by the Fifth Annual Hall of Fame Classic, presented by Ford Motor Company, on Saturday, May 25 at Doubleday Field, featuring several Hall of Famers and dozens of other former big league heroes.

The first pitch of the seven-inning game is set for 2 p.m. on May 25, following the popular Hitting Contest at 1 p.m. and the Cooperstown Game Day Parade, which will lead off the day’s festivities at 12 noon on Main Street, featuring the game’s participants and dignitaries. Tickets for the 2013 Hall of Fame Classic will first be available for purchase on Feb. 12, 2013.

Other activities will be featured throughout Memorial Day Weekend in Cooperstown, including the Legends for Youth Skills Clinic at Doubleday Field, a Voices of the Game roundtable discussion with the Hall of Famers on Saturday evening at Doubleday Field following the Classic, and the popular Family Catch on Sunday morning at Doubleday Field.

“The Hall of Fame Classic has quickly emerged as one of the highlights of the baseball calendar, and the move to a Memorial Day Weekend date will allow fans to celebrate the traditional start of summer with an opportunity to draw closer to a salute to America’s heroes of the military,” said Jeff Idelson, President of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. “With the support of the game’s players, Ford Motor Company and the entire Cooperstown community, Hall of Fame Classic Weekend has become a beloved tradition in just a few short years. We are excited to bring this event to Memorial Day Weekend, with the hopes for even more residents and tourists to celebrate the start of summer.”

The Hall of Fame Classic will once again be hosted in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Players’ Alumni Association. Hall of Famers and other participants in the weekend will be announced at a later date. Ticket prices for the 2013 Hall of Fame Classic will be $12.50 for 1st and 3rd base seats and $11 for outfield seats and will be available online at www.baseballhall.org beginning February 12.
