Derby captains Wright, Cano face off in MLB.com game

New York All-Stars play each other on handheld devices before real deal at Citi Field

Before leading their respective Chevrolet Home Run Derby teams into Citi Field on Monday night, New York All-Stars and Derby captains David Wright and Robinson Cano got the competition started on a smaller virtual scale.

Amid a busy week that includes plenty of excitement in New York, two of the city's brightest baseball stars spent some time playing the MLB.com Home Run Derby game on their handheld tablets.

"I know the Home Run Derby's played on the field, but for now, we're gonna play on the tablet," said Wright, who was the National League captain in his home ballpark.

Cano, the Yankees' second baseman, was the captain of the American League's squad.

Fans can download the official MLB.com Home Run Derby Game, featuring 24 sluggers from the 2010-12 Home Run Derby events. They can connect and challenge gamers on the worldwide leader boards, and the app is available for free on the Apple App Store.
