Homer aside, Corbin satisfied with first start

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Patrick Corbin left a fastball up that Rockies pinch-hitter Ryan Casteel hit for a two-run homer, but he was otherwise happy with his first outing of the spring.

Corbin allowed two runs on four hits while throwing 53 pitches over four innings Friday.

"I felt good," he said. "[Worked] both sides of the plate with my fastball fairly good, threw a changeup and got a good swing and miss on it, a couple of good sliders."

The pitch that Casteel hit the opposite way for a homer was a fastball that Corbin left up and out over the plate after he got a little quick with his delivery.

"I mean I don't want to give up any runs or hits, and I want to have good innings, but I felt good," Corbin said. "Good command I thought today. I thought I threw all my pitches pretty well, and I'm happy with where I am right now."

With a longer-than-normal Spring Training, the D-backs had more time to stretch their pitchers out in simulated games before the Cactus League got underway.

Corbin threw three innings and 45 pitches in his last sim game, so going four and 53 was a natural progression.

"I felt pretty strong," he said. "The other two live outings we had, the sim games, I kind of got a little tired and felt a little winded, and today I felt pretty good going out there for four."
