Hudson, Reynolds rehab with bullpen sessions

MLB.com

PHOENIX -- Daniel Hudson and Matt Reynolds, both of whom are recovering from Tommy John surgery last year, each threw a bullpen session Tuesday morning.

For Hudson, it was a continuation of the bullpen sessions he has already been throwing. For Reynolds, though, it was the first time he had thrown off a mound since his surgery last September.

"He looks good, he looks strong, he looks comfortable on the mound," D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said. "Feels good about it. He looks good, his mechanics are good. I think they cleaned it up a little bit, made it a little shorter, made it a little less rotational, tried to get him to be more online."

Hudson, who had to have his surgery redone last year when he was just weeks away from playing, will be used as a reliever initially when he does finally return. When that will be is uncertain, as the D-backs are taking things more cautiously with him this time around.

"I have an idea in my head, but I hate to say it," Gibson said.

Reynolds, a left-handed reliever, is hoping that he can pitch at some point this year, even if it's just for a handful of games in September.

"If you give them something out of the 'pen this year some time, it really builds for next year," Gibson said.
