Hudson set for start among D-backs' moves
Club promotes righty Ramirez from Triple-A, transfers Corbin to 60-day DL
PHOENIX -- The D-backs made a trio of moves involving their pitching staff Sunday morning. The club announced Daniel Hudson will start Sunday against the Padres, his first start since 2012, while also selecting the contract of right-handed pitcher J.C. Ramirez from Triple-A Reno.
"We are going to have him go 50, possibly 60 pitches," D-backs manager Chip Hale said of Hudson. "We just want to keep him healthy. It gives him a chance to lengthen out a little bit and then get two or three days off."
The D-backs also transferred left-handed pitcher Patrick Corbin to the 60-day disabled list.
Ramirez, 26, has not allowed a run in 11 relief appearances over 11 2/3 innings with the Aces this season. The right-handed pitcher has limited opponents to a .108 average. Left-handed batters are hitless in 11 at-bats against him.
Overall, Ramirez is 50-46 with 10 saves and a 4.17 ERA in 257 games in 10 Minor League seasons. He signed as a Minor League free agent on Dec. 1, 2014, and will become the second player from Nicaragua to play for the D-backs, joining pitcher Vicente Padilla.
Corbin has been on the DL since the start of the 2014 season while he recovers from Tommy John surgery on his left elbow.
