Hundley returns from paternity leave

SAN DIEGO -- Padres catcher Nick Hundley has returned to the team after missing two games to be with his wife, Amy, for the birth of their daughter.

Hundley was reinstated from paternity leave prior to Saturday's game against the New York Mets and was back in the starting lineup. Catcher Chris Robinson was optioned to Triple-A Tucson to make room for Hundley on the roster.

The Hundleys' baby was born on Thursday and is the couple's first child. Manager Bud Black said he had communicated briefly with Hundley while the catcher was away.

"We texted a little bit last night and I told him he was in the lineup today," Black said. "He said he was ready to go. Then he came in this morning and got lots of congratulations from everybody. He's doing well, Amy is doing well, and the baby is doing well. It's all good."

Robinson did not appear in a game in his first stint in the Majors. Black said he spoke to Robinson about the catcher's immediate future, with September callups on the horizon. For now, Robinson will head to Sacramento to play with the Tucson club.
