SAN DIEGO -- In case his first full week in the big leagues wasn't enough to remind Padres fans of his bright future, right fielder Hunter Renfroe took home yet another Minor League honor, named as the club's hitting prospect of the year by MLB.com.
Renfroe -- who earned the National League Player of the Week Award during the season's final week -- was joined by 24-year-old right-hander Dinelson Lamet in being recognized by MLBPipeline.com.
Lamet was named the Padres' pitching prospect of the year, after impressing at all three levels of the system in 2016.
Renfroe, ranked as the Padres' No. 3 prospect by MLBPipeline.com, took home the Pacific Coast League MVP Award this season after batting .306/.336/.557 for El Paso, with 30 homers -- the second most in Triple-A.
He received his first big league callup in late September following the conclusion of the Minor League season. And he impressed right away, hitting .371 with four homers -- including one onto the roof of the Western Metal building in Petco Park's left field.

No one questions Renfroe's power, and if he can pair that with some patience at the plate, the Padres view him as a staple of their outfield for years to come.
"In Hunter, I've been very open talking about, offensively, him being an incredibly dynamic player," Padres manager Andy Green said. "He has to stay in the strike zone. He's going to get his walks, not by being passive, but by scaring people out of the strike zone with his power."

As for Lamet, his impressive campaign came as a bit of a pleasant surprise to the Padres. In 150 innings across all three levels, Lamet posted a 3.00 ERA with 158 strikeouts, while allowing only eight home runs in some extremely hitter-friendly parks.
Lamet, ranked No. 18 among Padres prospects, began the season at Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore, where he went 7-1 with a 2.35 ERA. With San Antonio, he posted a 3.39 mark, before moving to Triple-A just before the playoffs. He appeared in two postseason games, allowing three earned runs in 5 2/3 frames.
