LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu was roughed up in his Thursday night rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Ryu, whose return from last year's shoulder surgery has been beset by numerous setbacks, allowed eight runs (five earned) on 10 hits (two homers) in four innings (he was expected to pitch five innings) against Round Rock.
Ryu's first two innings were scoreless. He finished with four strikeouts, no walks and had one wild pitch, making 77 pitches, and was relieved by Mike Bolsinger. In his latest rehab attempt, Ryu has made six starts with a 4.50 ERA.
The Dodgers are hoping that Ryu, as well as rehabbing right-hander Brandon McCarthy, can provide reinforcements for the decimated starting rotation by the All-Star break.
Injuries to them, Brett Anderson, Alex Wood, Brandon Beachy, Frankie Montas and Jose DeLeon have led to the use of Bolsinger, Julio Urias, Ross Stripling and, scheduled for Friday night, Nick Tepesch in the starting rotation.
