SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Left fielder Ian Desmond gunned down his first baserunner from his new position on Monday afternoon in the Rangers' game against the Rockies.
Desmond threw out Nolan Arenado trying to score from second base on a fourth-inning line-drive single by Trevor Story. There were no outs at the time during Monday's 9-6 loss to the Rockies.
"That was a real nice play and a real strong throw," Rangers manager Jeff Banister said.

Desmond, who is making the transition from shortstop, spent the morning working with field coordinator Jayce Tingler and bench coach Steve Buechele on his throwing.
"It's nice to be able what we did in practice and take it into the game," Desmond said. "It's good to get that experience out of the way but there is still a long way to go."

Worth noting
• Shortstop Jurickson Profar said he had a good Spring Training with the Rangers. He didn't mind getting sent down on Monday and is ready to play every day at Triple-A Round Rock. He just wants to stay at his favorite position.
"I'd like to stay at shortstop," Profar said. "I like shortstop. I have always been a shortstop and I'd like to stay there."
That's the plan for right now. Profar missed the past two seasons with a torn muscle in his right shoulder and the Rangers want him to make up for lost time by playing shortstop every day at Round Rock. Everybody was encouraged by his arm in Spring Training.

"My shoulder was good, so that's it," Profar said. "Best of all, I'm healthy. That's No. 1 for me. I can work on other stuff."
Profar isn't concerned the Rangers have shortstop Elvis Andrus signed through 2022.
"We'll work it out," Profar said.
• Reliever Tony Barnette pitched two-thirds of an inning in a Minor League game. He faced five batters and allowed one hit and two walks while striking out two.
• Ryan Rua was 3-for-4 on Monday and is hitting .472 for the spring.

• Rougned Odor was 2-for-3 and has five hits in his last 10 at-bats.
