In Round 13, Minnesota lands righty Peterson

With their 13th-round pick, the Twins drafted right-hander Brandon Peterson out of Wichita State, No. 380 overall.

A Savage, Minn., native, Peterson served as a closer for the Shockers in 2013 and pitched 40 innings with 26 appearances. He accumulated a 1.12 ERA with 42 strikeouts and a 3-1 record.

At 6-foot-1, 198 pounds, Peterson has a fastball that touches 95 mph and consistently falls at 90, which he pairs with a slider.

"He's got some pretty good tools," scouting director Deron Johnson said. "He's running up to 95 and he's got a good slider. He's not as big as [Twins' 12th-round pick Ethan] Mildren, but he's a bulldog on the mound."
