Indians add four additional players to Major League roster

CLEVELAND, OH-The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has recalled LHP DAVID HUFF, LHP SCOTT MAINE, INF CORD PHELPS and INF/OF VINNY ROTTINO from Triple-A Columbus, bringing the expanded Major League roster to 33 players.

Huff, 28, spent the entire 2012 Minor League season with Columbus where he went 7-6 with a 4.97 ERA in 24 games/22 starts (2CG, 134.0IP, 155H, 74ER, 34BB, 79K, .288AVG).  Over his last three starts he was 2-0 with a 2.91 ERA (21.2IP, 19H, 7ER, 14K).  His season did not begin until April 25 after straining his right hamstring in spring training. He wears #31 and will be making his first appearance on the Indians roster in 2012.

Maine, 27, was claimed off outright waivers on August 29th from the Chicago Cubs and made two scoreless appearances for the Clippers on August 31st and September 2nd (2.0IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 0K).  Scott had three different stints with the Cubs earlier this season, going 1-1 with a 4.79 ERA (20.2IP, 17H, 11R/ER, 12BB, 26SO, 11.3SO per 9.0IP, .230AVG) in 21 relief appearances. Left-handed hitters hit .130 (3-23) off him for the year at the big league level. In addition to his time with the Cubs, he appeared in 28 games for Triple-A Iowa, going 4-2 with 5 saves in 6 chances and a 2.88 ERA (34.1IP, 21H, 12R/11ER, 13BB, 29SO).  He wears #57.

Phelps, 25, hit .276 (139-503) with 82 runs scored, 34 doubles, 3 triples, 16 home runs and 62 RBI in 135 games for the Columbus Clippers in 2012 (.368OB/.451SLG/.820OPS) and was named the second baseman on the International League postseason all-star team. He finished the season 2nd in the International League in runs, tied for 3rd in doubles, 4th in hits, 5th in walks (71), 6th in total bases (227) and 8th in on-base pct.  He made all his defensive appearances at second base, hit .290 off left-handed pitching and in the second half hit .312 (58-186) with 12 2B, 7HR & 26 RBI in 50 games (.905OPS).  He wears #46.

Rottino, 32, was claimed on outright waivers from the New York Mets on June 27 and split the remainder of the season between Columbus and Cleveland. With the Clippers he hit .291 (68-234) with 18 doubles, 1 triple, 5 homers and 41 RBI in 60 games. With Columbus he appeared in 32 games in right field, 9 games in left field and first base and 2 games at catcher while hitting .319 (38-119) with runners on base. He was previously with the Indians from August 1-3, appearing in 2 games in left field (0-5, RBI). For the season at Triple-A (Columbus/Buffalo) he hit .297 (111-374) with 28 2B, 2 3B, 9HR & 66 RBI in 96 games (.809OPS) and finished 8th in the IL in average and T8th in RBI and also spent two stints with the New York Mets in May and June (18G,.182, 6-for-33, 2B, 2HR, 5RBI). He wears #25.
