Indians and Terry Francona agree on contract extension

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has agreed on a two-year contract extension (2018) with Manager Terry Francona that includes club options for 2019 and 2020.

Francona, 55, has led the Indians to consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 2000-2001, compiling a mark of 177-147 (.546) over his two-year tenure with the Indians that began in October of 2012. His 177 wins and .546 winning pct. rank 4th and 5th-best, respectively, in club history among managers through their first two seasons. The New Brighton, PA native owns a 14-year Major League career managerial record of 1206-1062 (.532), the 4th-most wins among active big league managers. Dating back to 2004 with Boston, Francona's teams have posted winning records for ten consecutive seasons, the longest such managerial streak since 2009 (Joe Torre), in addition to a pair of World Series titles and six postseason appearances.
