CLEVELAND -- The Indians' outfield could have a different look in the near future.
On Sunday, Tribe manager Terry Francona noted that right fielder Lonnie Chisenhall is scheduled to be activated from the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday, barring any setbacks in his rehab. Left fielder Michael Brantley, who will likely play in consecutive games at some point this week, does not appear to be far behind.
"He's getting pretty close," Francona said of Brantley.
Both Chisenhall (left wrist) and Brantley (on the 15-day DL due to a right shoulder issue) are slated to continue their respective Minor League rehab assignments with Double-A Akron on Monday. Chisenhall will play the outfield on Monday and then serve as the designated hitter on Tuesday before potentially coming off the DL for Cleveland.
"He's doing OK," said Francona, referring to Chisenhall. "It's more, now, getting back adjusted to playing nine innings of baseball, playing right field, making the plays and getting his at-bats. His at-bats have just been so sporadic that you need some time to kind of be able to do what you can do."
Chisenhall went 0-for-3 with a walk with Double-A Akron on Saturday, while Brantley also went 0-for-3 with a walk in the same game. Both outfielders were in Cleveland on Sunday to participate in the team's pregame workout ahead of the Tribe's tilt against the Mets.
While Brantley has been sidelined, Jose Ramirez, Rajai Davis and Marlon Byrd have split time in left field. Without Chisenhall, who will likely garner at-bats as a right fielder against right-handed pitching, Cleveland has leaned on Byrd, Davis and Collin Cowgill in right. Davis and rookie Tyler Naquin have shared time in center field.
