Indians OF Michael Brantley Named to 2014 American League All-Star Team

RHP Corey Kluber Named as One of Five A.L. Final Vote Candidates

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians were informed today that OF MICHAEL BRANTLEY has been selected as a reserve to the 2014 American League All-Star team as the result of player voting. Additionally, RHP COREY KLUBER has been selected as one of five (5) "Final Vote" candidates for a chance to join Brantley on the A.L. squad. Major League Baseball's 85th All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, July 15 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Indians fans can cast their Final Vote ballots for Kluber online at Indians.com or MLB.com/vote through Thursday, July 10 at 4PM ET.

Brantley, 27, earned his first American League All-Star selection and is set to become the first Indians All-Star outfielder since Grady Sizemore in 2008. Brantley is currently hitting .321 (103-321) with 58 runs scored, 20 doubles, 13 home runs and 57 RBI in 83 games (.385/.511/.896). He leads the team in batting average, runs, home runs (tied), RBI, hits and total bases and entered play today among A.L. batting leaders in average (5th), runs (T3rd), RBI (9th), OPS (9th), on-base pct (5th) and total bases (11th). He has hit at a .386 clip (32-83) over his last 22 games since June 9, collecting 18 runs, 6 2B, 4HR & 15 RBI in that span. Defensively, he owns a 78-game errorless streak and is tied for the MLB lead in outfield assists (10).

Kluber, 28, who is also seeking his first All-Star selection, has an opportunity to become the second Indians starting pitcher in as many seasons to participate in a Mid-Summer Classic, joining RHP Justin Masterson in 2013. Kluber has gone 8-6 with a 2.86 ERA (40 ER/125.2 IP) in 19 games/starts this season for Cleveland, compiling 137 strikeouts against just 30 walks. Including his 4-1 win over Kansas City earlier today, Kluber ranks among A.L. leaders in starts (T1st), innings pitched (5th), strikeouts (4th) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (6th, 4.57). In posting a perfect 4-0 record and 2.09 ERA in May, Kluber became the just the fifth different Indians pitcher ever to record 60 strikeouts in a single calendar month, first since RHP Dennis Eckersley in 1976.

The remaining A.L. Final Vote candidates include LHP Dallas Keuchel (Houston Astros), RHP Rick Porcello (Detroit Tigers), RHP Garrett Richards (Los Angeles Angels) and LHP Chris Sale (Chicago White Sox).
