Indians promote 1B/OF Jerry Sands from Columbus; Option RHP Austin Adams to AAA Columbus

The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the Major League roster:

Purchased the contract of 1B/OF JERRY SANDS (#40) from the AAA Columbus Clippers.

Optioned RHP AUSTIN ADAMS to AAA Columbus.

Transferred RHP JOSH TOMLIN from the 15-day Disabled List to the 60-day D.L.

Sands, 27, spent the entire exhibition season in Major League camp with Cleveland, hitting .304 (14-46) with a double, 2 home runs and 7 RBI in 22 games (.817OPS). He appeared in 10 games at first base, 7 games in right field and 2 games in left field. The Wendell, NC native was signed as a free agent by Cleveland to a Minor League contract in December and invited to Major League camp as a non-roster player. He is a veteran of 82 Major League games across three seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays. He started for Columbus at DH last night in their season opener at Indianapolis (0-for-4).
