Indians promote Ryan Merritt from Triple-A; place Joba Chamberlain on DL

The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the 2016 Major League roster: Recalled LHP RYAN MERRITT (#54) and RHP CODY ANDERSON (#56, 26th man) from AAA Columbus. Placed RHP JOBA CHAMBERLAIN on the 15-day Disabled List with a left intercostal strain (retroactive to May 22).

The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the 2016 Major League roster:
Recalled LHP RYAN MERRITT (#54) and RHP CODY ANDERSON (#56, 26th man) from AAA Columbus.      
Placed RHP JOBA CHAMBERLAIN on the 15-day Disabled List with a left intercostal strain (retroactive to May 22).
Merritt, 24, has spent the entire season to date with Triple-A Columbus, going 3-4 with a 2.94 ERA in 8 starts (52.0IP, 48H, 17ER, 8BB, 37SO, .253 avg). He has posted an ERA of 2.48 in 4 May starts (23.0IP, 24H, 9ER), including a 9.0-inning, complete game, four-hit shutout on May 9 vs. Lehigh Valley. Merritt will be making his debut at the Major League level after being added to the 40-man roster in November of 2014. He was Cleveland's 16th round selection (488th overall) in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of McLennan Community College (Waco, TX).
Anderson, 25, will make a spot start tonight in Game 2 of today's doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox. So far this season in 7 games/6 starts he has posted a mark of 0-3 with a 7.99 ERA (32.2IP, 51H, 29ER, 7BB, 22SO).
Chamberlain begins his 5th stint on the D.L. during his Major League career. So far this season he has posted an ERA of 1.93 in 14 relief appearances (14.0IP, 6H, 3ER, 6BB, 15SO, .133 avg). He experienced discomfort in the region during his most recent outing in Boston on Saturday, May 21.
