Indians recall LHP Scott Barnes; option RHP Jeanmar Gomez to AAA Columbus

CLEVELAND, OH-The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has recalled LHP SCOTT BARNES from the Triple-A Columbus Clippers.  To allow room on the 25-man roster the Indians optioned RHP JEANMAR GOMEZ to AAA Columbus after yesterday’s game in Houston.

Barnes, 24, has spent much of the season with the Clippers where he has gone 0-2 with a 3.73 ERA in 14 games/3 starts (31.1IP, 21H, 13ER, 15BB, 35K, .188AVG, 10.0K/9.0IP).  Out of the bullpen, the Springfield, MA native has posted an ERA of 2.35 in 11 outings (15.0IP, 9H, 4ER, 18K, .161AVG).  Triple-A hitters are batting .188 (21-112) off him this year with 0 home runs allowed in 31.1IP with right-handed hitters batting at a .167 (13-78) clip. Barnes was with Cleveland from May 30-June 14, working in 4 games out of the bullpen (10.38ERA, 4.1IP, 5H, 5R/ER) and did not allow a hit or a run in 3 of those 4 appearances. After returning to Columbus he made 3 relief appearances (3.00ERA, 3.0IP, 4H, 1R/ER, 3BB, 5K), June 17-23. 

Gomez has spent the entire 2012 season to date with Cleveland, going 4-7 with a 5.18 ERA in 14 games/13 starts (73.0IP, 75H, 48R/42ER, 10HR, 26BB, 35K, .265AVG).

Barnes wears #51 and will be in uniform tonight in Yankee Stadium.
