Indians recall OF Ezequiel Carrera from Triple-A Columbus

CLEVELAND, OH-The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has recalled OF EZEQUIEL CARRERA from the Triple-A Columbus Clippers.  To allow room on the 25-man roster the Indians have designated OF JOHNNY DAMON for assignment.

Carrera, 25, has spent the entire 2012 season to date with Columbus where he hit .294 (116-394) with 65 runs scored, 19 doubles, 6 triples, 6 home runs, 42 RBI and 26 steals in 33 attempts (.345OB/.419SLG/.764OPS).  In the second half he hit .420 (37-88) with 21 runs, 8 2B, 3 3B, 2HR and 16RBI in 21 games, hitting safely in 20 straight games from July 12-30 and was recently named Player of the Week by the International League and Indians organization. Among International League batters he is 2nd in the IL in runs (65), 3rd in hits (116) and steals (26), tied for 4th in triples (6) and 11th in batting average (.294).  He hit .297 off left-handed pitching and .293 against right-handers.

Damon, signed by the Indians on April 17, hit .222 (46-207) with 6 doubles, 2 triples, 4 home runs and 19RBI in 64 games.

Carrera will be in uniform tonight in Detroit wearing #12.
