Indians recall RHP Danny Salazar from Triple-A; option RHP Matt Langwell to Columbus

The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the Major League roster:

Recalled RHP DANNY SALAZAR (#31) from AAA Columbus.

Optioned RHP MATT LANGWELL to AAA Columbus.

Salazar will be making his second Major League start tonight against the Detroit Tigers in Progressive Field. In his Major League debut on July 11 vs. Toronto he recorded his first win and fanned 7 over 6.0-innings of 1-run ball, becoming the first Tribe pitcher since 1964 and just the fourth overall in the 113-year history of the franchise to strike out at least 7 batters in a debut.

Around his July 11th debut he has gone a combined 6-5 with a 2.71ERA in 21 games/20 starts for AA Akron and AAA Columbus (93.0IP, 71H, 28ER, 24BB, 129K, .211AVG). He is currently 14th among all Minor League pitchers in strikeouts and is averaging 12.5 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched. With Columbus he is 4-2-1 with a 2.73ERA in 14 games/13GS (59.1IP, 44H, 18ER, 14BB, 78K, .207AVG) and has not allowed a run in his last 15.0 innings (batters are 7-for-last-51, .137avg).

Langwell has split the 2013 season between Columbus and Cleveland, going 1-0 with a 5.06 ERA in 5 relief appearances over 3 stints since early June.
