Indians SS Lindor Finishes Second in AL Rookie of the Year Voting
Highest Finish by an Indian Since CC Sabathia in 2001
SS Francisco Lindor earned second place tonight in the 2015 American League Rookie of the Year voting. The voting was announced earlier tonight by the Baseball Writers Association of America on MLB Network.
Lindor, who turned 22 on Saturday, batted .313 (122-390) with 22 doubles, 4 triples, 12 home runs, 51 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 99 games, becoming the first Indians rookie with at least 10 steals, 10 homers, 20 doubles, 100 hits and .300 average since 1929 (Hall of Famer Earl Averill). He led all American League rookies in WAR (4.6), average (.313), and on-base pct. (.353) and finished second in hits (122), doubles (22) and multi-hit games (39) after debuting on June 14 at Detroit (8th-youngest player in A.L. at the time).
The Puerto Rican-born switch-hitter was one of the best players in the American League after the All-Star break, hitting .345 (99-287) with 44 runs, 19 2B, 4 3B, 10 HR & 42 RBI in 73 second half games. He led the entire A.L. in second half batting average, was 3rd in hits, 11th in on-base pct. (.386), T-15th in runs scored and 10th in OPS (.930). His 99 hits were the most by an Indians batter in the second half since Victor Martinez (100) in 2005 and the most by a club rookie since Dale Mitchell (129) in 1947.
Today's vote marks the highest finish by an Indians rookie since CC Sabathia's runner-up finish to Ichiro Suzuki in 2001.
