BOSTON -- The Indians, who swept the Red Sox out of the American League Division Series, struck first in Game 3 en route to a 4-3 win on Monday night at Fenway Park with a two-run single from Tyler Naquin in the fourth inning.
The rally came from the bottom half of the Tribe's order after Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz thwarted threats in the first three innings. Jose Ramirez hit a leadoff single and Lonnie Chisenhall worked a walk after fouling off a pair of full-count pitches. Coco Crisp laid down a well-placed bunt to move them along for Naquin, who sent a ground ball through the right side for a 2-0 lead.
It was the first hit of the series for the rookie. Naquin struck out in each of his first three at-bats of the series, including a called third strike with a runner on first in the second inning on Monday.
With the Red Sox's bullpen warming urgently, Buchholz escaped further damage thanks to a diving stop from Dustin Pedroia to retire Roberto Pérez, followed by a strikeout of Carlos Santana. Still, it gave Cleveland starter Josh Tomlin some breathing room, and gave manager Terry Francona a lead he could hand to his bullpen for the middle innings if needed.
