The Oakland A's placed infielder Chad Pinder on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain and recalled infielder Franklin Barreto from Triple-A Nashville, the club announced today. Barreto's first appearance with the A's will mark his Major League debut.
Pinder was removed from the game Friday night against the White Sox in the sixth inning. He has started 39 games for the A's this season at five different positions (17 at shortstop, nine at second base, seven at designated hitter, five in right field, and one in left field). He has hit safely in six of his last eight games and is 9-for-31 (.290) with three doubles, a home run, and seven RBI during that stretch.
Barreto, 21, is the A's top prospect according to Baseball America. He is batting .281 with eight home runs and 32 RBI in 68 games with the Sounds, and has seven multi-hit games over his last 12 contests (17-for-48, .354). He has seen the majority of his playing time at shortstop this year in Triple-A.
