Replay overturns double, gives Beltre home run

HOUSTON -- Adrian Beltre had an RBI double turn into a three-run home run by instant replay on Sunday afternoon at Minute Maid Park. The ball Beltre hit in the fifth inning was similar to one by Oakland's Adam Rosales on Wednesday in Cleveland that caused a big stir around baseball.

Beltre, batting with two on and one out in the fifth, hit a long fly ball to left-center that hit off the wall in front of Crawford Street. The ball hit one of the pillars between the archways, and third-base umpire Jeff Kellogg ruled it in play.

But manager Ron Washington asked for a review, claiming the ball hit above the yellow line and should have been a home run. The umpires reviewed the call and overturned the ruling, Beltre was given a home run and it was the first winning appeal for the Rangers this season.

Rosales hit one off the left-center-field wall at Progressive Field on Wednesday night with the Athletics trailing, 4-3, and two outs in the ninth. Manager Bob Melvin asked for a review, but did not get a reversal, even though replays indicated it was a home run. Rosales stayed at second with a double, and the Athletics lost the game.
