Izturis exits game with rib-cage injury

ANAHEIM -- Angels backup infielder Maicer Izturis left Saturday's game against the Tigers in the fourth inning, with what the team described as rib-cage tightness.

Izturis got the start at third base, struck out swinging in his first plate appearance, made a throwing error in the fourth inning, then started his second double play two batters later. For the bottom half, he was replaced by Alberto Callaspo. Angels manager Mike Scioscia believes Izturis suffered the injury while swinging in the first inning.

"He's got a little intercostal strain," Scioscia said after his club's 6-1 win. "It's day to day, so we'll see."

If Izturis misses time, the Angels can use Andrew Romine as their backup infielder. Romine can play second base, third base and shortstop.
