Izturis set to have surgery

Toronto Blue Jays INF Maicer Izturis will require surgery to repair a complete tear of his lateral collateral ligament (LCL) after an MRI conducted yesterday revealed the injury. Izturis will seek a 2^nd opinion prior to scheduling surgery. Typical recovery time for an LCL repair is approximately 4-6 months.

Izturis, 33, is batting .286 in 11 games this season, collecting multi-hit games in four of his first five contests. The switch-hitter owns a career .269 average in 909 games.
