Jackie gets belated celebration in Baltimore

BALTIMORE -- Following Tuesday's rainout, the Orioles and Rays celebrated Jackie Robinson Day a day late, with both clubs honoring Robinson's legacy in wearing No. 42 for Wednesday afternoon's game at Camden Yards.

The April 15 date honors the anniversary of the former Brooklyn Dodgers infielder's Major League debut and his breaking of the color barrier. Ceremonies all around baseball on Tuesday honored Robinson. Orioles outfielder Adam Jones, who was sent home sick on Tuesday with flu-like symptoms sweeping through the clubhouse, took to his Instagram on Tuesday to show his appreciation for what Robinson has done.

Jones, still not at 100 percent, was able to serve at designated hitter on Wednesday and be part of the belated celebration. He also had "#42" written on his cleats.

"I recognize him every day with how I go out and play the game,"Jones said earlier this week. "Every day, to me, is a tribute to Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby and all the innovators for helping myself, countless other African-Americans, Latins, Asians to play this game. I don't just look at it as one day. I look at that [as] how I treat every single day in the Major Leagues."
