Jackson Williams selected from Colorado Springs, Michael Mckenry placed on the bereavement list

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has selected the contract of catcher Jackson Williams from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Catcher Michael McKenry was placed on the bereavement list, opening a spot on the 25-man roster for Williams. Williams (#15) will be available for tonight's Rockies vs. Cardinals game (6:40 p.m. MDT) at Coors Field.
 
Williams, 28, will make his Major League debut in his first appearance after spending the entire season to date at Triple-A Colorado Springs catching 41 games. He has hit .262 (38-for-145) with 9 doubles, 2 home runs, 21 RBI and 13 runs. Behind the plate, he has thrown out 6-of-23 (26%) attempted base stealers this season and 184-of-486 (38%) in his Minor League career. Baseball America rated him as the best defensive catcher in the Pacific Coast League in 2010 and best in the San Francisco Giants system in 2007, '08 and '10. The Oklahoma native was originally selected by the San Francisco Giants in the supplemental first round (43rd overall) of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Oklahoma.
 
McKenry, 29, takes leave after playing eight games (seven starts) with the Rockies since his recall on June 4th. He also played eight games in May filling in for the injured Wilin Rosario. In those 16 games this season, he owns a .298 average (14-for-47) with 4 doubles, 4 RBI and 6 runs scored. McKenry has spent parts of each of the last five seasons in the Major Leagues, including a career-high 88 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2012. His career average stands at .229 (135-for-590) with 36 doubles, 17 homers, 68 RBI and 57 runs. He was drafted by the Rockies in the 7th round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft out of Middle Tennessee State University.
