Marisnick makes stellar grab on the run

BOSTON -- Welcome back, Jake Marisnick.

Playing his first game since being activated from the 15-day disabled list, the center fielder made one of the best catches of the season in the Astros' eventual 5-4 loss when he followed a long run with a leaping grab while crashing into the Green Monster for the final out of the sixth inning to rob Brock Holt of extra bases.

"That was pretty unreal," said pitcher Will Harris, who was on the mound. "I knew he hit it pretty well and I kind of watched Holt's reaction and he was busting out of the box, and I was like, 'All right, maybe it's not a home run.' I turned around and it was the best catch I've seen in a while, you know? It's good having Jake back. He plays really hard and is definitely one of the best center fielders in the game."

The catch, which earned Marisnick a round of applause from the Sunday afternoon Fenway Park crowd, also saved at least one run for the Astros. The Red Sox had scored two unearned runs earlier in the inning off Will Harris after errors by shortstop Carlos Correa and left fielder Evan Gattis, and Ryan Hanigan would have scored easily had Marisnick not caught the ball. Mookie Betts was also on base.

"I saw it go up and thought I had a chance at making the play and was able to," Marisnick said.

Marisnick was on the DL since June 19 with a strained left hamstring. He's one of the best defensive center fielders in baseball, but doesn't get much credit for his skills. The Astros like him so much in center that they pushed George Springer -- who came up as a center fielder and has Gold Glove potential -- to right field.
