OAKLAND -- Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick, who hasn't played since straining his left groin on Aug. 10, is making such good progress that he could be sent out on a Minor League rehab assignment within the next week, manager AJ Hinch said Sunday.
Marisnick did straight-line running again Sunday on the field at Oakland Coliseum and is taking batting practice with no issues.
"He's responding very favorably to the work he's doing," Hinch said. "We'll be pretty aggressive in Seattle with hopes we can get him out playing by the end of this road trip."
Marisnick is encouraged, saying the next hurdle for him will be doing some side-to-side movements without having any pain.
"I'll probably test is more tomorrow," he said. "Tomorrow will be another big day. Today was great to be pain-free. That was the biggest thing, just making sure I do all this without feeling it."
During his workout Sunday, hours before first pitch, Marisnick and Hinch "raced" on the field.
Upon hearing this, Marisnick said he was running at 30 percent and Hinch at 100 percent.

• Right-handed pitcher Chris Devenski, who's missed all of August with left hamstring tightness, will need a third Minor League rehab outing later this week at Double-A Corpus Christi or Triple-A Fresno.
