Peavy nominated for Bob Feller Award

June 23rd, 2016

PITTSBURGH -- Right-hander Jake Peavy, who reserves the same intensity for supporting humanitarian ventures that he brings to pitching, has been named the Giants' nominee for the 2016 Bob Feller Act of Valor Award.
The award honors a current Major Leaguer, a U.S. Navy chief petty officer and a baseball Hall of Famer who possess the values, integrity and dedication to serving Americans displayed by Feller, the Hall of Fame right-hander who died in 2010.
For years, Peavy has actively supported troops and veterans from all branches of the Armed Forces. In 2012, he established the Jake Peavy Foundation to support cancer research.
"You don't do that any of that stuff to win any kind of award, as in the same way we don't play thinking about awards," Peavy said Thursday. "That stuff just takes care of itself. But any time you're mentioned being up for an award, it's humbling, it's an honor and it helps bring more awareness to causes."
