James Jones recalled from AAA Tacoma

RHP Blake Beavan placed on 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis.

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik today announced the following roster moves:

  • James Jones, OF, recalled from AAA Tacoma
  • Blake Beavan, RHP, placed on 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis

Jones (#99) will be eligible for tonight's game vs. the Texas Rangers in Arlington (5:05 pm PT/7:05 pm CT).

Jones, 25, will be making his Major League debut when he appears in his first game. He was batting .310 (13x42) with 7 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs and 4 RBI in 11 games with Triple-A Tacoma this season. Jones made 11 starts in the outfield, including his last nine games in center field. He went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored, 1 double and 1 walk Tuesday night vs. Salt Lake.

In six professional seasons Jones has combined to bat .282 (525x1864) with 319 runs scored, 98 doubles, 39 triples, 40 home runs, 244 RBI and 96 stolen bases in 502 games in the minor leagues.

A native of the Brooklyn New York, Jones was selected by Seattle in the 4th round in the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft. He played three seasons at Long Island University (2007-2009), where he earned first team All Northeast Conference three consecutive years.

Beavan, 25, started (and was charged with the loss) in last night's game at the Rangers. He was never able to get loose and was pulled after the fourth inning. After being re-examined today, he was diagnosed with tendinitis in his right shoulder. For Beavan (0-1) it was his first start in the Majors this season, after beginning the year at AAA Tacoma. His final line was 4.0 innings pitched, 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned runs, 0 walks and 1 strikeout. The two runs came on back-to-back home runs in the second inning by Prince Fielder and Kevin Kouzmanoff.
