Jankowski, Rea join Texas League ASG

San Antonio center fielder Travis Jankowski has been named a starter for the South team in the Double-A Texas League All-Star Game June 30 and three right-handed Missions pitchers were also selected for the game.

Starters Colin Rea and Justin Hancock and reliever Tayron Guerrero will accompany Jankowski to Corpus Christi for the game.

Jankowski, who turned 24 Monday, is hitting .327 with eight doubles, four triples, a homer, 22 steals, 12 RBIs and 43 runs scored in 58 games for the Missions. He ranks third in the Texas League in batting average, on-base percentage (.403) and steals and second in runs scored.

Rea, 24, who missed a month of the season with back spasms, is 1-2 with a 1.29 earned run average with 50 strikeouts against nine walks in 56 innings. Hancock, 24, is 5-2 with a 3.10 ERA. Guerrero, 24, is 1-3 with a 2.70 ERA and four saves in 21 relief appearances for the Missions.

Rea and Hancock have both gained Texas League Pitcher of the Week honors this season.

Shortstop Trea Turner would have also been a starter for the South team, but he transferred to the Washington Nationals Sunday as the player to be named later in last December's trade that brought outfielder-first baseman Wil Myers to the Padres.

In other news, left-handed pitcher Brad Wieck (acquired in a trade with the Mets) and infielder Luis Tejada (promoted from short-season Single-A Tri-City) were added to the roster of low Single-A Fort Wayne while left-handed pitcher Jose Castillo and infielder Nick Vitter were transferred from Fort Wayne to Tri-City.
